What are ezine ads?
Ezine ads are short advertisements similar to classified ads which are run in an ezine (electronic magazine).
Some ezine publishers allow single advertisements to be mailed to their subscribers.
These advertisements are known as solo ads and can be much longer than the usual ezine ads.
How effective are ezine ads?
Advertising in ezines is not one of the most effective methods of increasing website traffic.
But...
A well written ezine ad that is well positioned in an ezine, or sent as a solo ad can be effective.
How to place ezine ads
The first step is to make a list of all the ezines which accept advertising. To do this, use the following ezine directories:
Bear in mind that ezine advertising is extremely targeted. It is very important that you only advertise in ezines with the same theme as your advert (i.e. advertise fishing equipment in ezines with a fishing theme, not in online marketing ezines).
The second step is to subscribe to the ezines in which you wish to advertise and to check on the content and layout. If you are happy with the content of the ezine, you can be pretty sure that other subscribers will also be happy.
Lastly you need to submit your ezine ad. Any ezine that accepts advertising will have links to the webpage or email address where you can submit your advert. The first place to check for these links is in the confirmation email you were sent after you subscribed.
Tips for placing ezine ads
Before you place any ezine ads, there are a few important points you must consider:
- Make sure the ezine is a 100% optin list, double optin is the best.
Why?
It is very easy for single optin list owners to add subscribers themselves from FFA lists, harvested email addresses, etc.
Double optin subscribers have to confirm that they want to receive the ezine, so you can be pretty sure that they want to receive the ezine.
- Make sure you're not advertising the same thing as the ezine owner, you don't want to compete with them.
- Make sure the e-zine looks professional. It must look good. Think of it as a matter of pride - you don't want to be associated with sloppy people.
- Try not to advertise in the classified section of an ezine, if there are too many ads in a classified section, the majority of readers will skip over them (the same as you do, why should anybody else act differently).
- Try to advertise in the "top ad" or "sponsors ad" spot, and make sure there is only one ad in this spot.
- The best e-zine ad is a solo mailing, but people get used to these and don't open them or delete them.
- Track your ads. You need to know:
- Are your ezine ads effective?
- Are you getting any response from the advert in the ezine?
- Check the advertisements in each issue of an ezine, if you see the same advert in each edition, you can be pretty sure:
- You've found an advertisement that is getting results (analyze it to see why).
- You've found a good ezine to advertise in.
- Check the advertisement in each issue to make sure that the ezine owner does not run advertisements for similar products.
- Research has shown that people on the internet need to see an advertisement nine times before they will act on it, so repeat your advertisements.
Tips for writing ezine ads
Because you have only a few short lines in which to get your reader to respond, an ezine ad must contain:
